2025 Power of the Purse - Sponsorship Levels_edited.jpg

Power of the Purse is Black River United Way Women United’s signature women’s fundraiser supporting youth literacy advancement in Georgetown and Williamsburg counties.

The 2026 fundraising luncheon will feature special keynote speaker Yolanda McCray, a silent auction, and women's panel discussion. Power of the Purse is a day for women changemakers to unite and show what can be accomplished when we work together. We look forward to your attendance and financial commitment in 2026!

All Women United fundraising efforts support the Heroes for Literacy program helping kindergarten - 3rd grade Georgetown and Williamsburg county students achieve age- appropriate literacy. Our goal for 2026 is to support 40-60 students in our counties for literacy advancement.

56% of Georgetown and 38.4% of Williamsburg county students are reading at grade-level by the end of 3rd grade.

88% of students who failed to earn a high school diploma were struggling readers in third grade.

Developing early literacy skills is crucial for future success

We have the bold goal to increase age-appropriate literacy in our community by serving 90% of third-grade students in BRUW programs and achieving 61.7% (the SC average) of students reading on grade-level by 2031.

We need your help in reaching our goals!
